Workshops on Quantitative Survey Design, Implementation and Analysis

The ESP-Mekong project management team conducted two important workshops on quantitative survey design, implementation and analysis with research teams representing four countries in September 2015. The first workshop was conducted from 17 to 19 September 2015 and attended by the Myanmar team, while the second workshop was conducted from 25 to 27 September 2015 and attended by the Cambodia, Laos PDR and Viet Nam teams. From the AIT-based research project team Dr. Philippe Doneys, Dr. Donna Doane and the team members Ms. Christine Widjaya, Ms. Duanghathai Buranajaroenkij and Ms. Kanokphan Jongjarb attended both workshops. The project’s consultants on survey design and statistics, Dr. Marc Voelker of Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University, and Mr. Hector Lim explained the survey methodologies and took inputs from all teams and the AIT project managers to design the questionnaire.

Participants also received hands-on training in the use of survey software. The survey will be conducted using digital tablets to save time and paper, and the teams were informed about the use of the software and how to sync their data to the umbrella project database. Valuable inputs and suggestions were received from the teams to make the survey better reflect priorities highlighted during the qualitative research phase as well as national-level differences picked up during that period.
